Before Treatment: Preparation Checklist
1. Exterior Preparation
- Clear the Perimeter
- Remove any items within 2-3 feet of the home’s foundation, including furniture, planters, firewood, and decorative items.
- Trim back shrubs, bushes, and overhanging tree branches near the structure.
- Ensure all soil or mulch is at least 4 inches below the home’s siding or stucco line.
- Sprinklers and Irrigation Systems
- Turn off sprinklers and irrigation systems 24 hours before the service.
2. Interior Preparation (Garage)
- Move Items Away from Wall Line
- Clear all items, such as storage boxes, tools, or furniture, from the garage walls where drilling will occur.
- Allow a minimum of 2-3 feet of clearance along the entire garage wall perimeter.
- Cover Stored Items
- Cover any items in the garage with a tarp or plastic sheeting to protect them from dust or debris during drilling.
3. General Access Requirements
- Accessibility
- Ensure technicians have access to all areas where termites may be active, including crawl spaces, the garage, and exterior walls.
- Unlock gates or doors that provide access to the property perimeter.
- Utility Clearance
- Inform the technician of the location of underground utilities, such as gas, water, or electrical lines, to prevent accidental damage.
4. Pet and Safety Precautions
- Remove Pets
- Keep pets, including outdoor animals, away from the treatment areas during and for at least 4-6 hours after the service.
- Cover fish tanks and turn off air pumps if they are in or near the garage or exterior treatment zones.
5. Address Leaks and Moisture Issues
- Repair any leaks or moisture issues near the home’s foundation, as these conditions attract termites and may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
After Treatment: Post-Service Instructions
- Wait Before Disturbing Treated Areas
- Avoid disturbing the treated soil or drilled areas for at least 14 days to allow the termiticide to take full effect.
- Do not plant or mulch near the treated perimeter for at least 30 days.
- Monitor for Termite Activity
- Keep an eye out for signs of termite activity, such as mud tubes or damaged wood, and report any findings to your technician.
- Garage Cleanup
- After the drilling and treatment are complete, vacuum or sweep up dust and debris from the garage.
- Maintain Preventive Measures
- Ensure soil and wood debris remain below the foundation line.
- Keep the perimeter clear of stacked wood, leaves, or other organic matter that could attract termites.
Additional Notes
- Follow-Up Treatments: Severe infestations may require additional services. Follow your technician’s recommendations for ongoing maintenance.
- Scheduling Inspections: Routine termite inspections are crucial to preventing future infestations.
